Waterscape shines at SIBS

Waterscape By Superior Event SIBS

The Superior team presented Waterscape at the recent Sydney International Boat Show, hosting a soiree with Pommery Champagne and Palm Products, and catering by Nick’s Seafood, for clients, contacts and media. Waterscape and its range of complementary rotomoulded furniture received plenty of attention during the 5-day event, and we picked up several major leads from commercial and residential customers. d’Albora Marinas recognised the versatility and brilliance of Waterscape and invested in one new conference and events centre at Nelson Bay Marina at Port Stephens however it is on show for the next few weeks at The Spit, Sydney marina. It will host various events including weddings, car launches and functions, in the new facility at Nelson Bay Marina.

Congratulations to Eileen Rawlinson from d’Albora Marinas who is the recipient of the Superior Jetties Intermediate Marina Management Course Scholarship. Eileen is the Front Office Manager at d’Albora Marinas Akuna Bay where she has been working since 2012. Eileen has completed the course at The Vibe hotel ion the Gold Coast with a motivated crew from Australia, NZ and Fiji who are all IMM certified now by the Global Marina Institute with a qualification recognised worldwide.  Eileen sees this as an important step in furthering her education with the comment. “The skills and knowledge learned in the course will help equip me for a great career in this industry.”

Superior CEO, John Hogan said he is encouraged by growing demand for MIA education courses. “Superior values the opportunity to support industry through this IMM Scholarship.”

Superior bolsters Engineering division

Superior adds engineering division

(L to R): Superior’s engineering division: Sam Gamage, Johan Tan, Shane Chu, Luke Rzepka, Darren Goody and Mick Hutton.

To keep pace with demand for more complex commercial projects, the Superior Group has bolstered its in house engineering capabilities with the addition of a dedicated engineering division.

Four engineers have joined the team, proficient in structural, civil and mechanical engineering, led by Johan Tan who is a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) and Mick Hutton, Operations Manager who is a qualified Mechanical Engineer with experience in the mining sector.

Superior can produce designs, produce design reports, detailed drawings and manufacture a structure, thereby enabling a turnkey solution, inclusive of certifications.  The demand for this service arose from the Mining industry where this skill set was essential to meet customer expectations.  Once this service was provided we have extended this into our marine industry offering.

Superior’s heavy duty design product solutions include the Super Elite Marina System and wave attenuation designs to improve marginal marina sites. High specification flotation and ancillary access structures for the energy and natural resources markets are also fully designed in-house prior to manufacture.

Superior has joined PIANC, the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure. The peak international body, PIANC was established in 1885 and is the leading partner for government and private sector in the design, development and maintenance of ports, waterways and coastal areas.

Dux Anchorage celebrates great access

DUX Gold Coast

An iconic boating hub on South Stradbroke Island, Dux is accessible only by water and is an Island haven for the use of Southport Yacht Club Gold members and their guests.

Sunday 16 August, Dux celebrated its 32nd Birthday, attracting around 55 boats and a ferry-full of guests, all of whom were very grateful for the new Elite 15m pontoon now in place.

It has always been a popular destination for overnight stays or day trips, but has never been as accessible as today, with the new pontoon, designed and constructed by Superior. Previously, at low tide, the sand prevented many people from getting to the shore. The new pontoon means boats can berth in safety and visitors, young and old, can reach this tranquil getaway without getting their feet wet!

Chowder Bay

Chowder Bay 2

Superior recently designed and built a pontoon for the Sydney Institute of Marine Sciences in Chowder Bay, near Mosman, on Sydney Harbour. The location is very exposed to the impacts of rough water and weather, so Superior employed the Seaflex underwater anchor system, with the sturdy and stable Super Elite pontoon, and a Capri marina system for vessels to berth.

A revolutionary mooring system, Seaflex is an environmentally-friendly option that won’t damage the seafloor as the elastic hawsers retain tension on the fixings at all times and thus keep all of the supporting mechanism off the seabed.  The anchors used are a Hulk Earth Anchor that uses a harpoon design to  fix a “deadman” anchor within the earth and therefore this is very efficient.  All of the Seaflex units can be tensioned from the surface using Superiors patented Trumpet Mooring Tube (TMT).  This tube provides smooth egress for the ropes through the base of the concrete pontoon and up a polyethylene lined concrete filled tube to an inspection pit in the deck.

This subsea anchoring technology will become increasingly important with wave attenuation, deep water sites and rock issues;  where heavy duty installs can be completed without the need for large floating barges.

Melbourne Water

Patterson Lakes - Melbourne Water

The Patterson Lakes project has come to a close after four years, much to the satisfaction of residents of this beautiful canal suburb on the Mornington Peninsula south east of Melbourne VIC.  The objective was to replace around 300 timber jetties and pontoons which were falling into disrepair. Residents had the option of simple replacement with new timber jetties or an optional upgrade to floating concrete pontoons.  Superior Jetties was chosen for the job and the Client Melbourne Water used project management companies Thiess and  Fulton Hogan during the project.  We are very appreciative of the local work performed by Scott Edwards and the team at Victoria Marine Construction and Maintenance, where a dedicated team manufactured and installed the Superior products onsite.  The Superior Jetties barge Lobster and work boat Shrimp were also onsite with an operations team for the duration and thanks also to Mick Waite for his skill on the waterways. Superior Elite concrete pontoons have been selected by many residents for standalone installs, while there are several mini marinas within the precinct as well.  In total, some 450 berths were created, on time and to budget, enhancing the lifestyle attributes of this picturesque waterfront community.

Broadwater Parklands Stage 3

Southport-Broadwater-Parklands-by-AECOM-Design-and-Planning-02

Boaties will soon enjoy a new place to access the beautiful Broadwater on the Gold Coast, thanks to the 30m x 6m landing pontoon designed and built by Superior as part of the next phase in the Broadwater Parklands development. The pontoons are being poured, and the Superior project team led by Luke Tapfer is working with head contractor JFM Civil Contracting following dredging works by Neumanns Dredging.   Superior will soon commence piling operations prior to fitting of floating boat ramp pontoons and the service dock.  The entire site will be using our SuperElite full concrete pontoons.
