Look back at 2013

Posted by:

Welcome everyone to my first blog of 2014.  I hope you all had a break over the holidays and enjoyed some family time.  We are back to work at Superior with some exciting projects this year.  Over the break I had a chance to reflect on some of the highlights of 2013.  Superior completed projects in South Bund Bonded Marina in Shanghai, Portland Harbour Marina, Portland Victoria, Rivergate Marine,  Queensland and Nadi, Fiji to name a few.  It is amazing that the large and small projects together deliver the reputation we enjoy today after 25 years.

The 25 year milestone was celebrated with an event at Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show 2013 with whom we have shared our main marketing activity for the same years since 1988.

We recently had 2 people approach us with interesting feedback.  Mike stopped me in a coffee shop to let me know that the shock absorbers we made 10 years ago are still protecting his boat and lift from excessive wakes on the main river.  The other request was to investigate adding kayak berths to a recently completed mini marina.  This was in a special request from a customer and shows that the trend toward kayaks becoming the entry level to boating is a real event.  We need to consider the needs of these boaters and modify our infrastructure to suit in way that accommodate easier berthing and egress to the craft, better storage and security in our facilities.

In 2014 we are embarking on a redevelopment of the Sydney Birkenhead Marina.  This involves adding new berths while reconfiguring the existing layout and adding fuel facilities.  This is being done using the Superior Elite timber whaler system and promises to be a landmark project for us in the Sydney market.

All the best in 2014

Global industry recognition an honour

Posted by:

Superior received an award at the Australian Marine Export & Superyacht Industry Awards held the week of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.  It was an honour to receive an award for our achievements offshore.

Superior has been focussed on an export strategy for over a decade and we are involved in many international projects that are exciting and challenging. Currently we are working on multiple projects in China including one marina in Nanchang as well as work in Shanghai. Other projects include delivery of our Capri products to Malaysia and ongoing work in the Seychelles. New projects are in the pipeline in other parts of China and Fiji.

The AIMEX Awards were held to reward the outstanding achievements of Australian marine industry exporters and the Australian superyacht industry manufacturers and service providers. Superior was recognised for the category ‘Best Marine Industry Export Marketing Strategy’.  Superior has used a strategy of attending international exhibitions to establish a network of dealers and licensees.  These local contacts are then able to offer fast services with a quality proven product either built in Australia, or locally using Superior designs and project management.  Such innovation has expanded the reach of the company, which now offers value into markets once deemed to difficult to service.

The award was welcome recognition for the significant commercial and government projects we have undertaken around the world including marinas, jetties, ferry terminals, piling and resort aquatic areas.

Day Two Superior Boat show shines

Posted by:

Welcome to Day 2 of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.  We had a good crowd on day one with bright sunshine and glorious weather. There was also plenty of interest in Superior’s floating stand with the stunning Bentley GTC V8 convertible floating on our Elite Deck pontoon catching everyone’s eye.  The amazing Sunstream Float Lift also drew plenty of interest as it demonstrated the quick getaway available for the James Bond style Pegiva water craft on show.  The Superior stand has been popular as visitors come past and view the array of products we have on show including our jet ski dock, pipe floats, Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUPs), Fire Hose reel covers and the new to Australia Seaflex pontoon anchoring system. Our team have been kept busy talking with customers and industry clients and attending the various networking event functions including AMIEX and Club Marine last night. Make sure you drop in and see us over the weekend . We are doing special boat show deals on our float lifts and a two for one offer on SUPs. We’ll keep you updated over the next three days on what’s happening over Show weekend.

Boyne Tannum Hook Up Great Success

Posted by:

Last weekend’s Boyne Tannum Hookup took place in glorious weather with almost 30,000 people attending the popular fishing competition on Queensland’s Curtis Coast near Gladstone. More than 300 boats competed in the competition over the weekend making use of the new Superior pontoon system to launch and retrieve their craft. The boat ramp pontoon was destroyed in the devastating Queensland floods a couple of months ago and the user facilities at Bray Park were critical to the success of the competition. Superior worked in partnership with Gladstone Regional Council to reinstate the pontoon system in record time for the event after there was doubt it could proceed.

Organisers were over the moon with the result with many locals commenting the new system was better than the one it replaced!

Superior also donated four Stand Up Paddleboards, manufactured at our rotomoulding plant on the Gold Coast, to raise money for charity. The SUPs were very popular and Superior is pleased to have been able to support this great community event.

Designing the future

Posted by:

We are busy in the run up to year end to ensure that numerous deadlines will be met. This is common at this time of year and in the hot weather the team is to be congratulated. In the midst of all this activity we still have our focus firmly fixed on the future. Our future products and services are being modified to meet the needs of a changing market.

We have produced the SuperiorWORK range of industrial products to respond to demand for pump pontoons, floating walkways, gangways and pipe floats for resource industries. A natural progression from this product line is the establishment of a separate steel division in our fabrication services. While we have had aluminium fabrication services for many years, the mining products need steel, and a new shop has been set up in Molendinar. This facility is available for all types of steel fabrication and we welcome your enquiries.

These investments in infrastructure reconfirm our belief in local Australian manufacturing. While it can be a challenging environment we use our home grown innovation to feed continual improvement to our international dealer network. We have a list of improvements slated for our marina systems and new products in development for a 2013 release. This is being done with design led thinking and lots of customer insight.

Thank you for your support in 2012 and all the best for the new year.
