Waterscape by Superior scoops Good Design Award

John Hogan and Alexander Lotersztain

Up against the marketing might of well-known global brands, Waterscape by Superior has been awarded the Good Design Award in the Lifestyle & Sport category at the Good Design Awards ceremony and gala dinner, 29 May 2015 at Darling Harbour.

The Good Design Award® is regarded as one of the most coveted awards for design and innovation in the world. Entries must represent excellence in design at every level where judges carefully consider various factors including innovation, quality, functionality, sustainability and above all, world-class design.

Waterscape is the product of a two year R&D program and collaboration between designer, Alexander Lotersztain of Derlot and Superior Jetties CEO, John Hogan.

“Waterscape is the culmination of deep customer insight, vision and design-led engineering,” explains Hogan. “It was our clients who inspired the concept of the glass walls for safety and aesthetics, the ladder, and many of the accessories, including the Waterscape range of rotomoulded furniture.

“This is our first foray into the design realm, which is Alex’s field, so it is extremely satisfying to win.”

Waterscape embodies insightful Australian ingenuity, creative flotation solutions and use of recyclable materials.  It provides a myriad of applications for yacht clubs, marina precincts, luxury homes and hotels. Anywhere there is a body of still water, Waterscape will extend the usage and enjoyment of the on-water experience.

“We have designed a place, not just a product,” continues Hogan. “Waterscape is the extension of your home onto your own, exclusive waterfront space. It is a place where friends and family can meet.”

Designer, Alexander Lotersztain understands the importance of transporting the customer to a place: his designs are innovative, intellectual, philosophical, and pragmatic.

“Waterscape has allowed us to create an adaptable floating structure that is functional but, at the same time, aesthetic. Waterscape is the first product of its kind that responds to what the customer wants and needs in a waterfront lifestyle product.

“We have created something so alluring and so desirable that, in a moment, the user is transported to a place of peace. Our customers have told us they wanted it and here it is – Waterscape is something you just have to experience!”

From the technical aspect, Waterscape was constructed as a modular flotation system and can be scaled to suit any site. Each module is 1-square-metre and each has a special connection on top which allows it to secure to the underside of the deck, making it relatively quick to build.

In November 2014, Waterscape won the Excellence in Innovation Award at the International Superyacht Society Awards of Distinction presented in October in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In May 2015, Waterscape won the Best Marina Innovation at the Marina Industries Association Awards.

Founded in 1958, Australia’s Good Design Awards is one of the longest standing and most prestigious design award programs in the world, managed by Good Design Australia and promoting the very best in international design, innovation and creativity.

The event is held annually to honour design innovators and features entries from various disciplines, across categories as diverse as automotive, digital, social innovation, business model and product design.

The Good Design Awards conducts one of the most rigorous assessment processes in the world and to receive this honour is a brilliant achievement.

Dr Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia who manages the annual Awards program said, “This year’s Awards attracted some of the most innovative companies from all over the world. For a project to be recognised at this level means without doubt, it is the best of its kind in the world.”
